Environmental Policy
No peat used in the production of Harte Peat Casing Soil or the Harte Professionalâ„¢ range of Professional Growing Media mixes or the Emerald Isleâ„¢ retail range, comes from a designated National Heritage Area (NHA) in Ireland. (Site of special scientific interest, SSSI in the UK)
Harte Peat Ltd. manages its peat reserves in an environmental responsible manner. It is company policy to retain a level of peat to allow site regeneration either as a nature reserve, wetland or forestry depending on the location, drainage or soil conditions.
Harte Peat is a member of the Growing Media Association (GMA) for Ireland and the United Kingdom and the International Peat Society (IPS) and subscribes to the principles and policies of both organisations in relation to the responsible development and use of peat.
Harte Peat Ltd, subscribes to and supports the International Peat Societies "Wise Use of Peat" principles.
Harte Peat as a member of the Growing Media Association agrees with and subscribes to that organisations responsible reduction in the use of peat in the retail sector and the use of peat alternatives where practical.
Harte Peat Ltd, will continue to carry out research and development on suitable materials for incorporating into our product range which are safe, economical and of the required quality standard to enable us produce comparable reduced and peat free growing media.
